Berliner Flughäfen
Berlin Airports is the operator behind the three airports serving the German capital, Tegel, Schönefeld, and Tempelhof. Together they handle some 17 million passengers a year and rank third in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich. The Berlin airport system is a legacy of Germany’s—and Berlin’s—divided history, with each of the occupying powers having had its own airport. The new Berlin Brandenburg International airport will replace this structure in 2011, bringing together the capacity of Berlin’s three existing airports at a single site and creating a major international airport to match those of other large cities.
