ARIS Solution Scenario: Process-Driven Business Intelligence (BI)

Discover the secret of successful process managers!

zoom image

In many organizations, process orientation doesn’t get beyond modeling business processes and supporting them via IT systems. What is lacking, is the integration of operational divisions to promote process-oriented collaboration. With their focus on quantitative results, conventional business intelligence strategies are not the answer here. Process-driven Business Intelligence is the only approach that involves combined analysis of both quantitative and qualitative results, enabling efficiency improvements to existing processes and continuous improvement of to-be processes.

Key Benefits

  • Intuitive approach from vision through to turnkey, process-oriented BI solution
  • Consistent requirements in shared ARIS repository (objectives, key performance indicators, end-to-end processes)
  • Up-to-date knowledge base of runtime processes throughout the enterprise
  • Continuous process improvement across organizational and IT boundaries
  • Shorter project times due to process orientation

Scenario Overview

This scenario provides a coherent roadmap for introducing an automated, scalable solution for measuring, analyzing, and optimizing business processes.

In the strategy phase, operational KPIs are derived from the strategic objectives and assigned to the various states of the end-to-end processes to be measured. The solution is defined in more detail in the design phase, then implemented and integrated with the existing IT landscape. During the controlling phase, the solution is rolled out operationally to enable concrete process improvement based on the measurements obtained. ARIS Process Performance Manager (ARIS PPM) is used as the measurement and analysis tool.

Strategy Phase:

This phase commences with defining strategic objectives, identifying measurable KPIs, and selecting the end-to-end processes. The requirements are linked and stored in the central ARIS repository. This enables process-oriented requirements analysis in order to ensure that process knowledge can be reused across the enterprise.

Design Phase:

The focus of this phase is on preparing the solution for implementation. The process to be measured is divided into sections, corresponding to specific states of the runtime data in the associated IT systems. The analysis views, report templates, and dashboards required by the customer are also defined.

Implementation Phase:

The outcome of this phase is a validated, integrated solution that is developed into a comprehensive measurement and analysis tool in a series of iterative steps. This is followed by role-based user training to pave the way for operational deployment. When used operationally, the solution automatically acquires data by continually logging and measuring runtime processes. The result is a seamless knowledge base, which provides up-to-the-minute insights into the efficiency and quality of live business processes.

Controlling Phase:

Users can monitor the achievement of objectives using intuitive dashboards and automatic reports. This enables weaknesses in the captured processes to be detected in a timely fashion and improvements initiated. Process intelligence makes it easy to understand the real-world workflows based on step-by-step representation in graphical process models, thereby facilitating identification of best practices.
