ARIS Business Simulator

Analyzing and Optimizing Business Processes

How do you establish efficient processes? How do you identify which process variants are better than others before they are actually implemented? How do you know what resources are required to execute a process or where bottlenecks will arise during process execution?

These questions can only be answered by analyzing the dynamic behavior of processes. This is where ARIS Business Simulator comes into play, with its Web-based simulation of business processes. By enabling the evaluation of both executability and efficiency, the software supports decision-making in reengineering, benchmarking, and resource planning.

ARIS Business Simulator allows both existing and new processes to be analyzed and improved. The application collects a variety of information during a simulation run that enables the behavior of processes to be assessed. The results are presented in the form of statistics and diagrams. Data provided includes throughput and wait times, costs, weaknesses, and resource requirements/utilization. To evaluate new processes, process variants can be analyzed and the resulting values optimized.

ARIS Business Simulator deploys the L-Sim simulation engine from the Lanner Group, a leading provider of simulation software. This means that you benefit from a best-of-breed product that combines the benefits of business process management and simulation.

Your benefits:

  • Realistic simulation and dynamic analysis of business processes to support strategic decision-making
  • Identification of resource bottlenecks and process weaknesses
  • Creation of executable, time- and resource-efficient, cost-effective processes
  • Reduced throughput times and simultaneous improvement of resource utilization result in optimum use of resources
  • Reliable evaluation of process alternatives to identify best practices
  • Client/server solution that can run using a Web browser without client-side installation

Process and KPI data in a central repository

No unnecessary modeling effort—ARIS Business Simulator uses structure and KPI data located in the central ARIS repository. As the solution is fully integrated into ARIS Business Architect, the processes captured by ARIS serve as the data baseline for simulating business processes.

Simulation of actual processes provides information, such as, the throughput time of processes based on a given level of resources.

Visualization of process flows during the simulation run

The model view provides direct analysis options, such as, object or attribute animation. By changing the colors of objects and lines, object animation reveals whether sub-processes are entered or completed. Attribute animation delivers information on the status of individual objects, such as, the number of times a function has been performed at a particular point in time.

Comprehensive analysis options enable identification of modeling errors, inefficiencies, and weaknesses.

Statistics and charts provide a clear overview

The statistics delivered by ARIS Business Simulator for evaluation purposes provide a range of information, including data on the various object types and process instances. For example, function statistics provide information, such as, the number of function executions or wait times, while process statistics enable insights, for example, into the number of completed process instances or their throughput times.
The statistical information can be presented in the form of pie charts, bar charts, or line graphs, to make the figures more meaningful and easier to understand.
